The RMS Queen Mary is a frightening ship that carries with it, the premonition of death! That’s how the trailer for Haunting of the Queen Mary starts out, at least, and as the video continues, we do indeed see some scary things that take place not only in present day, but on an ill-fated Halloween voyage in 1938.

The movie, which was shot in Long Beach where the Queen Mary has been docked for years and turned into a permanent hotel and entertainment venue, channels The Shining in more ways than one. The story revolves around a present day family whose lives get entangled with the violent end of another family in 1938 on the ocean liner. No one is safe, and no one, it seems can leave, if that ghostly piano player is telling the truth.

The movie comes to us from director Gary Shore, whose previous credits include 2014’s Dracula Untold, and stars Alice Eve, Joel Fry, Nell Hudson, William Shockley, and Lenny Rush. It’s written by Stephen Oliver and Tom Vaughan, with revisions by Shore, and produced by Brett Matthew Tomberlin, Thorsten Schumacher, Lars Sylvest, Nigel Sinclair, Nicholas Ferrall and Mali Elfman.

Haunting of the Queen Mary will premiere in theaters and digital on-demand on August 18, 2023.
